Re: [Marxism] Nicaragua: The First Year of the Ortega Government -- A Balance Sheet

Interesting discussion, but very, very downsided and
negative. Hardly a balance sheet, since that would
require a look at BOTH pluses and minuses in this
situation. This report only provides the minutes and
nothing else. Let's assume, for the sake of argument,
that all the minuses are true, but is a rounded picture
as negative as we read here?

Not a word about such things as:

ALBA, under which Nicaragua can obtain better trade ties
SI SI PUEDE: the Cuban literacy program now active there.
PETRO-CARIBE: the Venezuela-initiated lower-price oil
program for countries of the Caribbean region. We read
about the private ownership, but not about whether or not
the price of oil for ordinary drivers is any different
now than it had been before. I have no information, but
the interview doesn't provide any
OPERACION MILAGRO: the free eye surgery program with Cuba.

FOREIGN POLICY, the country is obviously a great deal more
independent of Washington under the FSLN than it was under
the previous administration.

I think this material would be complemented by some of the
materials which Phil Stuart Cornoyer, a Canadian-Nicaraguan
FSLN member has provided on Socialist Voice website.
