[Marxism] Obama, racism

Louis, there is probably a good question buried somewhere in your reply.

If you read to the end of this, you may agree with me that this is what
inspired Michelle Obama to say that she is proud of her country for the first
time.

I am not supporting Obama but the surprising popular movement that has made
him. I think it would be sectarian to do otherwise.

A people who cannot use the electoral process as a defensive measure against
the great costs (three trillion dollars) imposed on them in the name of empire
will not be prepared for any other kind of action. This is a victory which
could inspire confidence in peoples' ability to make change. And that is the
last thing the powers that be want.

I don't think the present socialist or labour or green candidates represent
actual movements. At least nothing compared to the grassroots organization
behind Obama's surprising success. And that is what is behind it--not the money
of rentiers and PACS.
