Re: [Marxism] Socialist Worker (U.K.): Castro and Cuba

Something I should have added to my original post:

Fidel Castro:

"I enjoyed watching the embarrassing position of all the candidates for the
United States presidency. One by one they were obliged to announce their
immediate demands of Cuba in order not to risk losing a single voter.

"Half a century of blockade seemed little enough to the favorites. "Change,
change, change!" they cried in unison.

"I am in agreement, change! but in the United States."

From the article I posted, it would appear that the SWP is very much in
disagreement with Fidel. Because while the article has many suggestions about
what needs to be changed in Cuba, there is NOT ONE WORD about what needs to be
changed in the United States. No call for an end to the travel ban, no call for
an end to the blockade (referred to in the article once as a "blockade," and
once by the inaccurate U.S.-term "embargo," but never explicitly denounced), no
call for the U.S. to get out of Guantanamo (and I don't just mean the prison),
no call for the U.S. to respect Cuba's sovereignty and let Cubans determine
their own path free of U.S. influence and pressure (and worse).

"Socialists today should defend Cuba against US imperialism" says the SWP.
Perhaps they don't see themselves as socialists, or perhaps they think that
defense begins the day that U.S. planes commence bombing Havana. Real defenders
of Cuba against US imperialism know that the battle is on, NOW.
