Duh. That's why I used quotation marks.  But since we're on the  
subject, qualitative cultural practice can be measured, not by  
numbers or scientific instrumentation, but by the practice of being  
in the situation.  Ethnographers have eyes and ears to 'measure'  
people's beliefs and practices in everyday situations. And  
ethnography was quite important to Marx and Engels. Morgan's work in  
particular had a strong influence.

That's where anthropology differs from, say, any number of so-called  
hard sciences.  The practice of ethnographic research is part art,  
part science. Of course my comments are quite speculative, and should  
be read as such. Merely voicing my admittedly unscientific opinion on  
the issue, in something of a sarcastic manner, mr. tin ear.

But if you don't think that the Clintonian race baiting strategy will  
have an effect on the outcome of tuesday's primary then you are,  
quite simply, out to lunch.
