Well, I don't post much but I have posted before on
why I think it's worth reconsidering nuclear, and I
have no stake in the nuke business, unless I'm tainted
by watching too much Star Trek as a child. Using Rolf
Martens as a counter-argument against nuclear power
seems like a childish straw-man argument for you,
couldn't you dig deeper into your sarcasm bag?

Seriously, I respect the arguments that people like
Joachim make against not trusting capitalists with
something so dangerous, etc. Nevertheless, there
seems to be a lot simplistic rhetoric about the issue.
Everyone immediately brings up nuclear waste, but
dismiss the argument that new reactor designs burn up
most of that waste. The danger of radioactivity is
proclaimed but studies which show that coal burning
release more radioactivity into our surroundings is
rarely acknowledged.

Global warming, if we trust the experts, is a serious
issue. The big "solution" U.S. politicians are
pushing is ethanol, which will be a social disaster.
Capitalism is not going to disappear any time soon,
but the issue of CO2 is now, apparently. In that
context, as well as the context of countries like Iran
going nuclear against the wishes of U.S. imperialism,
I think a serious case can be made for fission as an
energy source, along with wind, solar, etc.
