[Marxism] Brazil-Cuba as against Spain/Canada-Cuba

To which Louis replied: "Yes, but so are Spain's, or Canada's. What
makes Brazil different from Spain or Canada in this regard? Both Spain
and Canada trade/invest with/in Cuba."

What makes Brazil different is that Brazil is a semicolonial country;
it is part of Latin America at a time when there is a strong push by
the left for economic integration to counter imperialist domination.
It is something to build on and develop further.Â

There is still another reason why Brazil's trade, investments and
credit are not just more important but adamantly essential to counter
imperialist domination. The SÃo Paulo "bandeirante" bourgeoisie has
long been consistently trying -and, alas, with no little success- to
substitute "Latin American" for "South American" unity. Behind this
attempt lies the hatred to Cuba not only because of its socialist
definition (which is by no means a minor issue) but essentially
because it won't be able to even attempt to impose on Cuba the terms
that it tends to impose on the South American states.

This bandeirante bourgeoisie has been keeping a tight noose on
Brazilian foreign policies, and this opening by Lula directly
contradicts their intentions.

From the general point of view of global proletarian revolution (and I
am being serious), this shift in the foreign policies of Brazil
reinforces a perspective where the final struggle of the Latin
American workers and peasants with the US bourgeoisie and its "local"
stooges won't be waged between the Orinoco and the Amazonas, but
between the RÃo Bravo and CuraÃÃo. On this, the ruling coallition that
leads Brazil today has alligned its own policies with those of ChÃvez
as against those of the bandeirantes in SÃo Paulo and their
imperialist allies.

Nothing of the sort can be imagined for Spain or Canada.
