It's a commendable proposal, Louis, which I fully support, though I
suspect if will face all of the problems of any experiment in
"distance learning."

Given that the cultural attention span wonders in a face-to-face class
after 15-20 minutes, maintaining it over weeks proves tricky.  And, if
they know of it, the very people who have no place in such a beginners
group will join it as a seemingly attractive field of recruitment.

But these things are always worth a try.  They are only as good, in
the end, as the people getting into it want it to be.  Even a few hits
is better than none at all.
