Re: [Marxism] China and Cuba, in response to a reader's query

Walter writes: "The Chinese Communist Party does NOT say they are building
capitalism as a useful instrument. They say they are building socialism with
Chinese characteristics. As we know, their opinion is not shared by some on
the international left who have decided that capitalism has been restored in
China. They are entitled to their opinions on this."

"Socialism with Chinese characteristics" is not a characterization but an
evasion. There is no social system anywhere on this globe that does not have
national "characteristics." This phrase is used, not to clarify matters, but
to place the discussion our of bounds, as you do here.

In the field of the organization of the economy, and in particular the most
dynamic leading sectors of the Chinese economy, what we see in fact is the
state fostering the development of capitalism. Moreover, in many leading
sectors, including electronics, light manufacturing and the automotive
industry, it is an extremely dependent capitalism that aims at suplying the
parasitic imperialist countries than developing a strong national market or
economy.
