[Marxism] The Official Story Unfolds in Pakistan
NBC nightly news dismisses the official Pakistani account. The quick
blame on Al-Qaeda for Bhutto's death by Pakistani government sources
does not sit well with thousands of Bhutto's followers mourning her
death, said the commentator, nor does the revamped explanation of her
death by concussion. And they also showed the same footage as the
Washington Post, identifying the gunman with the pistol not more than
5 feet from Bhutto, before showing a clip from the interior ministry
repeating the silly story of her death by concussion. Although they
did not call the Pakistani official statement a lie, the implication
was quite clear. NBC also pointed out that many of those rioting in
the streets were targeting government buildings and officials. They
also repeat the CNN story that Bhutto sent Blitzer an email to be
read publicly if she died, blaming Musharaff for her assassination
for not providing proper security.
So how to read the report like reading Pravda? Seem to be that
Musharaff and/or ISI and Pakistani military were behind the attack,
and that Musharaff either overstepped his brief or failed to control
his officers, and Washington would not bail him out. Bush's appeal to
continue with the election seems to be a face-saving gesture in light
of the total failure of Washington to broker the political marriage
of two political enemies. Cui bono? Obviously, Musharaff. I wonder
if US special forces will still be going into Pakistan. I bet not,
especially if all the opposition political parties choose to boycott
the election.
