When I was president of my local a few years ago, I had a conversation
with my counterpart in Corbin, Kentucky, about 25 minutes away from
Barbourville. We were discussing contract negotiations, and he told me
that he would be afraid to picket his shop, because the union jobs there
were considered so far above the average job in Kentucky. He felt people
would laugh at the union workers for complaining.

I guess shame is another in the list of things that pull labor back
these days.
