Re: [Marxism] Manufactured shortages in VZLA

Marvin Gandall writes:

"The oil price is still high enough to support the currency and contain
(hyper)inflation, is it not? Perhaps there are political inhibitions,
recalling that the Caracazo was triggered by a sharp hike in gasoline
prices? But that was against the unpopular Andres Perez regime acting on
behalf of the IMF. The current political context is entirely different.
Couldn't the Chavez government effect this measure in the context of
a mass
educational campaign and offsetting subsidies - particularly as
higher gas
prices would mainly hit private motorists?"

18 cents a gallon is ridiculously low, but considerably higher gas
prices would also impact the cost of public transport by bus, as well
as the cost of food distribution (by truck), leading to higher food
prices as well.
