[Marxism] Trump Is Trumped In Scotland

Americaâs most famous and execrable billionaire, Donald  Trump, was left with 
egg on his face last week when Aberdeenshire local council  in the north east 
of Scotland voted to reject his plans to build a luxury golf  course and 
resort on conservation land located in their constituency. Though it  was close 
and came down to the casting vote of the chairman of the meeting held  to 
decide 
on the proposed development, it was a slap in the face to a man who  more 
than other has come to embody the super capitalism of a society beyond the  
pale. 
Trump  had swept into Scotland last year in a blaze of  publicity, surrounded 
by his ever present coterie of sycophants and ciphers,  bragging about how he 
was going to build and develop the biggest and best golf  complex in the 
world. But what Trump and his advisors failed to take into  account was the 
fact 
that in this world there are still some places and people  who just ainât for 
sale. 
Take  55-year old salmon fisherman, Michael Forbes, for example. For over 40 
years his  family have resided on a quiet stretch of land on the Aberdeenshire 
coast which  falls smack bang in the middle of Trumpâs proposed development. 
In fact, the 23  acres of land owned by Mr Forbes sits directly between the 
two 18-hold  championship courses which Trump was planning to develop. Trump 
attempted to buy  Mr Forbes off, but throughout this stubborn Scots fisherman 
told him to forget  it.   
Forbes  said recently: âI wasnât against the golf course  from the start, 
but then they just went mental because I wouldnât sell. They  said theyâd 
make 
my life a misery and they are.â 
Indeed  Michael Forbes has become a rallying point of defiance for other 
local  residents, environmental campaigners and conservationists, who have 
waged a 
 determined and tireless campaign to block the proposed $1 billion 
development.  Trump originally made an offer of $700,000 for Mr Forbesâ land, 
later 
increasing  his offer to almost $800,000. When this was also turned down, Trump 
lost his  cool. âTake a  look and see how badly maintained that piece of 
property is,â he said. âItâs  disgusting. There are rusty tractors, rusty 
oil cans. 
I actually asked him, âAre  you doing this on purpose to try and make me look 
bad, so I have to pay some  more money?ââ 
Wildlife conservationists whoâd also  fought to block Trump were 
understandably delighted with the verdict of  Aberdeenshire Council. A 
spokesperson for 
the Royal Society for the Protection  of Birds (RSPB) said: âThe destruction 
of 
part  of Aberdeenshire's beautiful unspoilt coastline has been recognised as 
too high  a price to pay for this development. We hope that Scotland will 
continue to offer and  promote the best golf courses in the world, but not at 
this  
expense.â 
Donald  Trump was reported to be surprised at the councilâs decision and is 
considering  an appeal. His representative at the hearing was George Sorial. He 
said:  âObviously we are very disappointed. It is our position that the 
council has  failed to adequately represent the voice and opinion of the people 
of 
Aberdeen and the Shire who  are ultimately the losers here.â 
No, Mr  Sorial, the council has demonstrated the courage to reject the values 
of a man  who thinks the entire world is for sale and exists solely for his 
pleasure and  that of his superrich friends and  associates. 
The  message is clear Mr Trump: Scotland is not for sale. Now beat  it..
