Re: [Marxism] NYT: Australia's Prime Minister Defeated After Four Terms
I actually agree with this, except that I do not think we can accuse
the likes of Rudd of selling out. Rudd is not betraying anything.
Rudd if anything has been perfectly honest about what he is. He
repeatedly says he is "rock solid on the US-Australia alliance for
instance and calls himself a "fiscal conservative". that of course is
code for his support for the continued exploitation of the working
class..
He also tried very hard not to make IR a defining issue IMHO, because
there alone as Alan points out he is in danger of raising expectations
which he has no intention of answering.
Having said the above let me be clear. There are traitors in the
Labor Party and to a man and to a woman they come from the trade union
bureaucracy.
Though it must also be acknowledged that most of the workers who voted
against Howard's Industrial Relations laws are not in fact members of
unions. I am inclined to think that that is why they have taken the
radical step of throwing Howard out.
regards
Gary
