Re: [Marxism] Another break from Democrats, another Green candidacy (oops)

My concern has always been more the institutional dynamic among the Greens,
which functions much the same as in any socailist group. The cliques and
clusters in the largely memberless heartland are tremendously overrepresented
in the national party and they are extremely jealous about the weight they
carry in the party.

The nomination of Cobb in 2004 was, I'm convinced, largely done as an act of
organizational revenge on Nader for his not having come to them, hat in hand
and sweet-talked them. Frankly, if these same forces are going for McKinney
now (or for Nader), the problem still remains.

The Greens need to work towards a representation of active membership, one
member=one vote, rather than representing states as states, regardless of how
many or few engaged members they actually have. That course has self-imolated
most of the larger third party movements in American hsitory, because it is
very easy for a relatively tiny group of people to have an extraordinary amount
of power.

This representation issue is ultimately more important than the nomination
issue. However good the candidate is, it will only postpone addressing this
question, which is essential to the future of the Greens or or a mass Labor
Party or a Black Party or any insurgent force..

Solidarity!
Mark L.
