Jeff Rubard wrote that some of McKinney's activities and views "generated
lots of negative attention from 'neutral' elements in the press, setting up
a situation where attention would be wicked away from concrete policy
issues"
What "neutral" element? Even Jess has to put it in quotes as he makes the
assertion. If you run as a serious third party candidate, you are going to
ignored or maligned by the media, the most notable possible exceptions being
some local coverage of a candidate's visit.....
The very assumption that there can be neutral (in quotes or not) coverage in
the bourgeois media provides another indication that some not-very-radical
assumptions can underlying the most radical-sounding rhetoric. And the
notion that corporate media isn't giving candidates with radical ideas
decent coverage because of the personal flaws of the candidate--whether
Nader or McKinney--seriously misunderstands the nature of power and media.
