Whether you call it a "guesstimate" or not, my point stands--it's a
he-said, she-said situation, and with virtually the entire Left*
declining in numbers *and* influence over the past few decades, getting
into squabbles about how many people a particular party "REALLY" has
strikes me as somewhat silly.

* Clarification - I'm referring to the Left in the imperialist world,
of course. The Bolivarian Revolution and similar currents in other
parts of the developing world, particularly South America, seem to
indicate that a new Left is gaining momentum in the "global South."
