The subject heading and the sub-title are misleading -- as though the
motive were energy resources for the U.S. itself, but that is not the
case. A war for the _control_ of middle-east oil is not the same as a
war to put gasoline in u.s. automobiles. The U.S. itself can get along
perfectly well without that oil, but controlling it is important for
u.s. power in relation to Europe, China, and Japan.

Moreover, the sub-heading, "Putting a Country in Your Tank," tends again
to individualize responsibility for the war, putting it on u.s. drivers
rather than on U.S. capital. The effect of the war on individuals, far
from guaranteeing their fuel supplies merely raises the prices they pay.
Even or especially SUV drivers suffer from the war.
