One small comment: "Free software" is usually considered a subset of
"open source" software, though the first term came first. Free software
advocates are part of the open source movement, not rivals (though
they're sometimes rivals with /the rest of/ the open source movement).
It is true that many say "open source" to avoid the "radical"
implications of the term "free software" but that's not to be assumed.
Another reason is that the term "free software" /sounds/ ambiguous, to
the ignorant ear.
Anyhow, interested Marxmailers may like to read the GNU Manifesto and
the preamble to the GNU General Public license (GNU is the flagship
product of the Free Software Foundation).
