As I recall another big name beside Vicente Navarro is John B. McKinlay
(http://www.massgeneral.org/stoecklecenter/advisoryCommBios/mckinlay_bio.htm)
who has written a lot of stuff on epidemiology and medical sociology from a
more or less Marxian standpoint. A cousin of mine once pursued graduate studies
in sociology at Boston University many years ago, and had him as a professor.
