Re: [Marxism] Disjunction between antiwar sentiment and size of protest



First, a comment on my previous post. I didn't mean to suggest that there weren't ALSO objective realities WITHIN the antiwar movement (e.g., the fact that Troops Out Now Coalition has called for their own demonstration on the 29th and that UfPJ didn't endorse Sept. 15) which reduced the size of today's demo from what it "could have been." But I think those are significantly less than the objective realities INDEPENDENT OF the antiwar movement which control the potential size.

Having said that, our local antiwar group just got the following rather different estimate from the streets of DC:

"Eyewitness report from Sharat Lin on the ground in D.C.

Estimate of crowd - 100,000 - "Sea of humanity" filled Pennsylvania Avenue

Very youthful crowd, good turnout from DC African American community"

So I'll hold my thoughts about the actual size of the event pending further data.
