Re: [Marxism] Goff analysis of Petraeus testimony (and my comments)

Marvin: "This would be a good point, if Goff were, in fact, counterposing protests
against Democratic politicians to larger protest actions against "the
government that is waging the war". But is he? I didn't see anything at all
in his article to suggest that he is recommending that "a frustrated antiwar
population should now focus their attention on angry protests against the
Democrats." I expect he sees very public local actions against DP
politicians as complementing rather than undermining the national protest
actions which being planned."

I'd say this from Goff's article pretty much says what Marvin says he doesn't say:

"The target of our misbehaviors (at least Code Pink and IVAW were on hand to disrupt yesterday) must be the Democratic Party. They can ignore another protest on the National Mall, but they can't ignore people occupying their local Congressional offices. These occupations to end the occupation need to become ubiquitous."

As exemplified by his close ("Misbehavior works. Delegitimate. Disobey. Disrupt."), Goff seems to give disproportionate importance to people standing up in a Congressional hearing and shouting "Liar." Nothing wrong with that, or with occupying a Congressperson's office either. But suggesting that such actions, as opposed to and even to the exclusion of other things like mass marches, are the key to stopping the war is misguided.
