Re: [Marxism] Our alternative should be an antiwar movement,
Comrade Ben:
Joaquin,
regardless of the inherent flaws in the Greens (which have doomed the party
to structural and functional failure) it is sort of comical to watch you
attempt to galvanize the left into yet another single issue campaign. It
reminds me of the masses that united and fought in the 60's over Vietnam. Oh
wait, theres a little more than a correlation there actually a causal
relationship between Vietnam and Iraq. (both were imperial wars where the main
agressor was the U.S and the demograpics of each region posed humiliating
obstacles to the U.S military; which caused major waste in money, lost lives,
and no possibility of winning) My point is there is a stunning relationship
between Iraq and Vietnam so our friend Joaquin believes that we should
basically put all our energy in Iraq like we did against Vietnam right? Wrong!
It is true that a strong anti-war movement now is necessary. However, it is
even more true that the left shouldn't put all it's eggs in one basket. The
60's was
semi effective because there was a network of resistance. The anti-war
movement was huge (and there are reasonable groups like IVAW that are
spearheading these mobilations in the status quo.) Despite the anti-war
movement there were also Black power movements, the emergence of a global
resistance to industrial factories, and the emergence of grass root resistance
(all of which were anti-war but still attacked different subsets of the
system.) This massive resistance in culmination killed industrial capitalism.
(the ruling class was left trying to beat back and ocean with a stick) What we
need is to push the anti-war movement but also push grassroots campaigns,
immigrant rights, labor issues, LGBT issues, and any other campaign that can be
sustained (possibly the Greens) And I agree 2004 was a failure but if the Green
party can some how ressurect itself and take a firm anti-war anti-capitalist
stand than so be it. Even if it fails (which i fear is terribly possible) The
two
party system will invest alot of political capital sabatoging beating back the
flood and will ultimately be overwhelm by the high tide.
