Re: [Marxism] U.S. most armed country with 90 guns per 100 people

I think Walter's comments on this reflect a more liberalish interpration of
'guns' than the reality of
gun owndership and the real problem of violent crime in America.

Guns are banned in Britian, for example, yet gun crime is increasing
expontentially. So in their case
gun ownership of the legal variety is totally irrelevant to the rise in this
crime rate. (guns are smuggled
into the UK with drugs, often, and used in crimes).

Canada, which despite being further down on the list, still has a gun ownership
level comparible with
the US. In rural areas of Canada, I'm told, gun owndership actually is greater
than in the US. Yet
violent gun crimes are much, much less due to the the fact that violance in
Canadian society is much
less than it is in the US. One could argue, therefor, that "guns don't cause
violence" and that any form
of gun banning (they have very strict gun *control* laws, but no banning of
guns) would be totally out
-of-place in the Canadian state.

I suspect that if you banned gun ownership in the US (as M. Moore would no
doubt like to do)
violent crime employing illegal guns would go down...not at all. Largly because
criminals that use
guns acquire them illegally through smuggling anyway and crime itself is a
fucntion of class society, not
the "availability of guns". It's a false flag issue that should be left to the
defenders of the liberal wing of
the Democratic party and should stay out of the left's program.
