Mr. Finkelstein, meanwhile, has retained a lawyer. "I
will not continue to endure this nightmare through
eternity," he said. "I intend to put an
end to it, one way or another, in the coming weeks.
The hunger strike will be open-ended."<

Oh great. Why doesn't he just threaten to immolate
himself in front of the DePaul admin building? This
kind of thing will convince everyone who was on the
fence (or anywhere near it) that the university was
wise to be wary of this unprofessorial "wild man."

comment -

It's distressing to see the face of bourgeois respectability raise its ugly
head on a Marxist list. Perhaps Finkelstein should be more "civilized" and
write to his congressperson!

I think that his refusal to give up the fight is extremely laudatory -
something that "Marxist" dilettantes willing to confront nothing more than
their
keyboards might want to try someday.

I would hope that the entire left in the Chicago area as well as the
sizeable Palestinian community and its allies joins Finkelstein in making this
protest as broad as possible so as to serve as an excellent educational
opportunity both about Zionism and the right of free speech.
