[Marxism] call for essays on Higher Education

The journal Socialism and Democracy is looking for people who would be willing
to submit short essays of about 3000 words which deal with any of the
following areas: 1. the problems related to teaching working class students who
have quite often been coerced into attending college and going into debt
because of the pressures that hyper credentializing of the labor market places
on them, 2. the new concerns that college teachers face about attacks on
academic freedom, 3. issues related to the funding of colleges and universities
because of budget cuts and the push for more privatization of higher education
and the impact this has had on both teaching and learning or 4. the attempt by
college administrations and what are usually called "Stake Holders" to gain a
firmer grip on what takes place in the class room through the push for the use
of assessment instruments and other bureaucratic means of control . Other
related topics will also be accepted. The due date for these essays will be
Nov. 1 and the ones we select for publication will appear early next year. For
information about Socialism and Democracy, go to www.sdonline.org

If anyone has an idea for an essay that they would like to run by me , I can be
reached at snedekerg@xxxxxxxxxxx The purpose of these short essays is to
encourage debate and critical reflection.
