Thanks for that, Les. I find discussions on biofuels
rather frustrating, because they always revolve around
converting land-based biomass into fuel. Turning food
crops into fuel seems insane, as many have pointed
out, and enzymatic conversion of cellulose into fuel
seems like a recipe for even greater deforestation so
Americans can keep driving big cars.

What I am curious about is biodiesel from algae, which
grows extremely fast, does not erode soil, can be used
to sequester emissions from coal-burning plants, and
can possibly be a byproduct of sewage treatment. In
the back-and-forth on biofuels, this usually seems to
be ignored.
