The Spartans were only one of three contingents that
stayed to the end at Thermopylae.

Besides the 300 Spartans, there were 400 Thebans, and
700 Thespians.

That makes the Spartans the *smallest* contingent to
stay and die.

While Googling this topic, however, I have run into
the suggestion that a bunch of non-counted Spartan
helots may also have been present. I don't know where
that idea came from, so I don't know what it's worth.

I'll leave the obvious joke about the 700 Thespians
alone - I just wish I had a time machine.
