Re: [Marxism] What is to be done in 2008
Thanks to Anthony for his comments on racism, a central
element in the socio-political culture of the United States.
And as far as the presidential elections are concerned, my
imagination got to working, and so, here goes, why not?
My dream candidates would be Peter Camejo for President and
either Cynthia McKinney or Cindy Sheehan for Vice-President.
Peter has cancer, so he isn't available now, unfortunately.
Mumia Abu-Jamal would be another option, an outstanding
public presence as he's so gifted, like Peter is, also at
explaining in clear, simple and popular language, the main
issues of the day, but he isn't in a position to campaign
effectively right now. I believe he has turned down other
opportunities to be nominated in the past.
Eugene V. Debs ran for president as a prisoner in 1920 and
received a million votes. Who's to say what the options
might be?
Mumia Abu-Jamal's would be a stunning candidacy, wouldn't it?
It would also help draw needed attention to his case. What
is LEAST needed is an array of small candidacies by those
existing left parties which only do such campaigns for
their own primarily organizational reasons.
These could be important ways to utilize the electoral
arena to point out that a better world is possible.
Just thinking out loud,
