Re: [Marxism] Freeman Dyson on scientific heretics and climate change

Freeman Dyson's home page is at http://www.sns.ias.edu/~dyson/
and the page is informative at Wiki...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freeman_Dyson

His difference on global warming is that he doubts the predictive value of
computer models and urges focused local observations. It doesn't sound
particularly unreasonable to me.

However, I wouldn't view a widely-acclaimed, prize-winning physicist as a
"heretic" any more than I'd expect the pope or anyone in the College of
Cardinals to be one. Simply put, I appreciate that he likes the term
"heretic"--it's frankly "cute" that someone that big knows the term and
wants to defend it.

However, Dyson has ample opportunity to defend real heretics before. What
did he say about the people who said the Bush administration and its
Democratic collaborators were lying when they decided to start this war?
Does he defend people who oppose the major religions? Did he defend the
right of Communists and radicals to be heretics?

If not, I suspect that he may not really know what the term is, much less
have an interest in defending it.....
