If it were the steroids, and if the critics were _actually_ "objective,"
THEN they would consider all aspects of his baseball career, and
identify clearly which of those aspects can be and which cannot be
ascribed to steroids. None of the critics have done this. None of them
mention his doubles and triples, his batting averagesd, his stolen
bases, his fielding records -- i.e., none of those aspects of his career
which steroids would not affect.

And the complaints about him long predate any discussion of steroids.

Politically, the core of this is a funamental feature of capitalist
ideology in the u.s. -- the attempt to reducve everything to the vices
and virtues of individuals, and suppress collective aspects.
