I do not believe the comparison being made by all of these different
people between Cuba and the United States is appropriate. If Moore is
trying to reveal the United States as rotten, why wouldn't he discuss
the potential of the United States rather than go for the petty insult
to Bush with this Cuban stunt? It's not right to compare Cuba and the
United States, they are completely different places in different
circumstances. Chauvinism towards Cuba is beyond philistinism, as the
United States is certainly not an economically isolated, second world
island and if it was, its system would translate to mass misery
_quite_ more dire than that had now in Cuba. Cuba is not a segment of
a united socialist world and is not a council democracy which is the
precursor of socialism. Once again it is an isolated second-world
island and attempting to hold it to even bourgeois United States
standards is wrong. The only reason I can conceive for bringing Cuba
into discussions about the United States is that capitalism in the
United States has been taken for granted and so reform must be
propagandized by positive rather than critique of the negative
variety, that is, by pointing out the activities of impoverished
"enemy" nations like Venezuela and Cuba. Look at Cuba, see how they're
better, so ha ha instead of the United States is a pit compared to
what it could be, lets overthrow the bourgeoisie, etc. This is very
similar to the chauvinistic response to all criticism: Go to China, Go
to Iraq, Go Live In Cuba. It brings up an irrelevancy to hide the
backwardness of the United States, because attacking the US from this
position offers no way to change; is the US to become Cuba?
