[Marxism] Prison guards (was: Police unions etc.)
But should they be denied the right to organize themselves into unions, and
would the left support or be indifferent to anti-union efforts to decertify
their existing organizations - efforts the organized working class would
itself undoubtedly oppose? That's ultimately the question posed by Sayan's
email.
Reply:
That they should be allowed to organise themselves into unions isn't really
the issue for Marxists. The issue is should that unionisation in any way alter
our analysis of their role in society and change the way we orientate
towards them based on that role.
I don't think it should. There comes a point where we have to take sides.
Not all workers are worthy of our support. The ranks of the BNP in the UK are
filled with members of the white working class, as are all fascist formations.
What of it? A fascist is a fascist.
Being determines consciousness.
