Re: [Marxism] No to Nuclear Power

"The testimony of the mayor of Nagasaki still horrifies-Gideon
Rachman-Financial Times24/07/2007 "

Of course this is totally irrelevant to the issue of the peaceful use of
nuclear energy.

Or is it?

In fact, under a US/Russian agreement, US and Russian nuclear reactors are
rapidly
burning up the thouands of pounds of weapons grade plutonium from former
Russian
nucelar weapons in a program dubbed: "From Megatons into Megawatts". 50% of the
fuel used right now to produce nuclear generated electricity in the US comes
from this
source. Which means that approx. 10% of the power your computer is running on
to read this
message comes from these former nuclear weapons.

Opponents of burning up weapon grade plutonium (where burnup is almost 100%)
would, of course, just assume they stay where they are, in warheads or who
knows
where. Those of us on the left who support this would only wish the would do
the
same to the US's 30,000 nuclear war heads.
