[Marxism] Cynthia McKinney in Harlem, June 10 (video)

A fundraiser to retire a $40,000 campaign debt owed by former U.S.
Representative Cynthia McKinney took place at St. Mary's Church in
Harlem on Saturday, Junet 10. It was a big success according to its
chief organizer, Paul Zulkowitz of the NY Green Party. Titled "An
Evening of Revolutionary Love," it drew together several hundred
Black, antiwar, and social justice activists.  Lynne Stewart, a
keynote speaker with McKinney, helped draw people to the event,
although it seems all proceeds went to retire McKinney's debt from her
2006 Congressional campaign.

McKinney gave a terrific speech, recounting her journey from her
initial run for the Georgia state legislature to the Cointelpro-style
campaign that ousted her from the U.S. House of Representatives. She
said that if she runs for office again "It won't be red and it won't
be blue."

At the reception following the rally, I told Cynthia McKinney that I
would enthusiastically support her as a Green Party presidential
candidate in 2008. She told me she is seriously considering that
option.

Earlier in the day there was a  fundraiser for McKinney in Jamaica,
Queens -- a predominantly African American neighborhood. Former
Panther and NYC city councilman Charles Barron from Brooklyn spoke and
Sunday ABC talk show host Gil Noble ("Like It Is") moderated. Former
Unity Party leader Ron Daniels (associated with the Greens back in the
'90s) was also there.
