i am not a u.s. leftist, but to me it i fairly obvious why people on the 
left may be discussing Iran's internal affairs but not those of the 
other countries Carrol lists.

Many of us have been asked (or told!) that we should be "supporting" the 
Iranian regime, some have even told us that Iran may be part of a new 
anti-imperialist bloc... in such a context to not explore and discuss 
the internal affairs and recent history of Iran would be utterly 
irresponsible.

(and also: some of us do discuss the "internal affairs" of other 
countries on this list...)
