Re: [Marxism] Iran crackdown
South Africa is a capitalist society where the class struggle is normal.
Unions demand more wages. Employers and governments general resist the
demands of the workers under capitalism. There is one rather notable
difference between South Africa and Iran. South Africa isn't today
under threat of a military invasion by the United States of America.
This does make a certain difference in the political situation.
Here in the United States, the Chaneys, Podhoretezes and the Wall
Street Journal are beating the drums for a military strike against
Iran. They want to build up as much public hostility against the
Iranian regime as possible. They seek to mobilize public support for
("manufacturing consent") for a war against the Islamic Republic of
Iran today.
Others within the ruling class have begun to shrink back somewhat
from this precipice. They have begun to blink a little bit at what's
potentially in store should Washington turn out to have underestimated
the significant dangers of a military strike against Iran. In answer
then to Carrol's question: in a sense, we're discussing the politics
of the United State of America right now, not far-off Iran

But, Walter, the facts on the Islamic Republic are clear. It has a track
record of repressing the left through murder and torture going on for
decades. I can't say that I am totally surprised by your PR efforts for
the mullah/bazaari bourgeoisie. I am also wondering how long it will
take you to denounce the South Africa strikers as provocateurs.
