Re: [Marxism] Iran crackdown
Just because the United States government has publicly announced
it is actively funding dissident groupings in a major project to
destabilize the Iranian government should have no influence when
thinking about these events. The Iranians have no reason at all
to think that Washington would want to overthrow a government in
that country, would they? They must be completely irrational and
we should discount any such notions. Time to crank up the noisy
campaign against "radical Islam" right about now, isn't it?
God isn't great, says Christopher Hitchens.

ROBIN WRIGHT reported:
The Bush administration's $75 million fund to promote democracy in Iran
is the key reason for the recent arrest of several dual U.S.-Iranian
citizens in Iran, including D.C. area scholar Haleh Esfandiari. Iranian
analysts contend that the U.S. funds have also made civil society
movements targets because of government suspicions that they are
conspiring to foster a "velvet revolution" against the regime.
