My fear is that our cognitive apparatus might be of the kind that's
evolutionarily well-adapted to just the sort of propaganda which
capitalism sells. In which case, capitalism simply may not be
something that can be dislodged.
There are apparently some studies that show that humans are very poor
at perceiving the benefits to the group rather than to the individual
(the well-known "prisoners' dilemma" paradox). If this is the case,
then there may be no hope for socialists. It's a truly scary thought.
