Re: [Marxism] Venezuela's "student movement"
I had an encounter with the anti-Chavez people in New York City on
April 12th, 2002. They are well-organized, well-funded, and
well-informed about what is going on in Venezuela. They were able to
throw together a fairly well attended (50 people?) anti-Chavez
demonstration in front of the Venezuelan consulate in New York not
even a day, but some hours after the coup had taken place, and got it
filmed by the mobile Spanish language television news truck. Not all
of them were Venezuelan - there were bourgeois Colombians and so forth
there as well. A man seemed to be leading the whole thing, I forget
his name, I know he had some anti-Chavez meetings in Jackson Heights,
New York subsequently. Anyhow, in my experience, these things are
about as far from being spontaneous as you can get.
