Yes and no. The book is just as much a story of how
Cannon navigated through the treacherous shoals of the
party's changing composition, politics and fortunes, and
sought to lead it through those shoals.
And as such it's a testament to what can be done by 
an individual who refuses to bullshit himself or others,
who learns from his mistakes, and who admits them openly.
The net result, in Cannon's case, was a stronger CP
when he was at all possible of making it so, and a
vibrant new party -- with important continuers today --
coming out of its wreckage.
