RE: [Marxism] French elections

So there's really no question but that Raza Unida was a very real mass party

Not exactly. It never really had a mass character outside of Crystal
City in south Texas. I went down there with a group of SWP'ers in
1974 and was really impressed with the organization, but up in
Houston the LRUP never amounted to anything. It was mainly students
who were as disconnected from the Chicano grass roots as radicals
were in general. I don't even remember if La Raza candidates were
ever on the ballot. I am sure that none were ever elected, if they
were. If the party were to succeed, it would have to begin electing
people in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and Austin. Unfortunately, the
Crystal City leaders never had an aggressive and ambitious plan to
build a truly state-wide organization. If LRUP had consolidated
itself statewide in Texas, it would have had an impact on California
and Colorado.
