Communists at odds over adhesion to Chávez' socialist party

While last March, the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV) voiced its "firmest determination and willingness to pave the way for articulation and unity of the revolution," fourteen of the 40 members of PCV central committee believe "the politburo is not complying with this resolution."

PCV leader and second vice-president of the Venezuelan Legislature Roberto Hernández read a statement claiming "the unity of the revolutionary forces vis-à-vis Yankee imperialism and its domestic servants."

However, Hernández ruled out breaking up with PCV, adding they would continue to "fight for the whole PCV to join the United Socialist Party of Venezuela."

He explained their condition to enter PSUV was this party "to adopt the ideology, politics and organizational structure of the working class.

Pro-Chavez PPT party is not over

Pro-government Patria Para Todos (PPT) is not to wind up to join the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), said Monday PPT secretary- general.

The high-ranking official noted that 504 militants remained following the decision by Aristóbulo Istúriz and other PPT leaders to join PSUV.

He commented that a national meeting held last week was democratic in nature. "Aristóbulo (Istúriz) was allowed to read a paper and Guárico state Eduardo Manuit was given the floor also."

Following the call, "most states remained as solid and active as ever. There were outgoing members, but we have incoming people."

"Being a member of a political party is not of the essence. The important thing is for all of us to fight for this nation and not take a rest to build a homeland for all Venezuelans."
