Jean-Christophe, I think you are an example of a leftist that has succumbed to 
"veneer" of national chauvinism. I wouldn't say this simply because you are 
identifying with the symbols of the FIFTH Republic...after all those are what 
these symbols represent even if their *origin* is with the Revolution of 1789. 
No, it's because you are apologizing and have adapted TOO the naked 
right-social-democratic, clearly nationalist aspects of the  Royal campaign and 
HER move to the right on every issue.

What is wrong with this tri-color waving born-again Republicanism? Perhaps 
nothing in and of itself, as I say, in part it's a "veneer", opportunist 
through and through, but because the national chauvinism of the PS as a leading 
imperialist party in France has helped use these symbols to *replace* what WAS 
in fact the color of the French working class: red, and all that THIS entailed. 
The symbolism represents *nothing* of an attempt to recapture anything of the 
French Revolution but I think everything that means it *rejection* which is the 
pro-Europe, pro-capitalist, pro-global imperialism of the French ruling class 
and a rejection of the democracy of that Revolution, it's sense of solidarity 
and plebeian and proletarian history. She and her party are the rejection of Le 
Commune and the political inheritors of Millerand. Ah, yes, she is not Sarkozy, 
perhaps this is what you are really getting at. 

The SP/Royal represents not the leftwing Jacobin tradition at all but their 
betrayers, the right-wing of the Gironde! One more step to the right and it's 
into the 2nd Estate with her.

Anyway, that's my only comment on this.
