stunning victory on the referendum on
whether to authorize the holding of a Constituent Assembly, with 78.1% of
the vote in favor, 11.4% against, and 10.5% casting spoiled or blank
ballots. That's based on an exit poll.

Correa is widely regarded as being aligned Venezuelan president Hugo
Chávez, and argued that a constituent assembly was necessary to begin a
process of profound changes in Ecuadorian society, saying the current state
structure has only served the oligarchy.
