I got a bit excited at first sight of the story.  But he has withdrawn before,. 
 I think it may be that he is responding to grass roots pressure from within 
his own movement to move into opposition rather than collaboration through an 
alliance with Maliki with the US.

Moreover the pressure on Iran may also be beginning to tell in terms of Shia 
commitment to the occupation.
