underway. An enormous explosion in the legislative building of Miranda

Friday night, a "public and notorious" explosion took place in the
headquarters of the Regional Legislative Council of Miranda state [in
the north of the country, the center of Venezuela's Caribbean coast],
with one person injured.

The security guard in the place was injured and transferred to the
Victorino Santaella de los Teques Hospital; his prognosis is not known.

The Chair of the institution, Deputy Liliana González, indicated that
it was an enormous explosion that caused obvious damages to the
structure, and she described the act as "terrible."

"This act of terrorism is deplorable," she asserted. She stated that
the act is part "of the plan for a coup that is underway against the
revolution," announced by President Chávez.

The CICPC, scientific, penal and criminal investigation corps, the
DISIP, intelligence and preventive services directorate, and the
Miranda state police appeared on the scene to begin investigating what
had happened.
