Fred,
The only thing one can deduce with certainty from
the statement by the Bishops is that the church
hierarchy is party to the push to replace Mugabe.
Unfortunately I have some direct experience of
these matters. A bit over twenty years ago one
cardinal Nsubuga was making similar statements in
support of Yoweri Museveni's power grab (which was
was funded by the British "entrepreneur" Tiny
Rowland -- also shades of the Zimbabwe opposition
here). Did anybody "believe" the good Cardinal's
statements? Well, those who were part of the
"uprising" and wanted to believe did, while the
rest of us knew exactly what sort of puppet to
the imperialist powers the good cardinal was.

Unfortunately the incompetence and sheer political
stupidity of Mugabe's regime has prepared the 
ground for the coming victory of a puppet
neoliberal regime with "democratic" credentials
in the Kaguta mold.
