[Marxism] re: SDS

Dohrn takes her stand:

"I intentionally ignored the challenge to debate
the issue of what killed SDS 38 years ago and who
was right when, in favor of exploring what we all
can do, in solidarity, now."

Reading this, my brain echoed with the challenge
hurled by Weather folks as they tried to conquer
their recruits' fears about falling in line:
"Don't be defensive. Push it out and deal with it!"

The ex-Weather leader did not speak at the SDS
meeting because of her work at Northwestern
University Law School. She gets her platform first
as a one-time national leader of SDS in 1968-1969,
the year that group reached its membership zenith,
and the year it collapsed. Her other claim to SDS
status is for the Weather fiasco, which she obviously
shies away from discussing because it would expose
her to real criticism.

If Dohrn truly wanted to help get a new student
movement off the ground, she would do what Mark Rudd
did: explain how disastrous their anti-democratic,
'armed struggle now' politics was for last major
student movement, and why it should be examined,
understood and criticized to ensure that it not
be repeated.
