Re: [Marxism] The ISO in Zimbabwe
The reason you have been going in circles with the ``stubborn
comrades'' around the world who continue to insist that socialists
must democratically organise themselves to engage in political
activity, including the DSP, is that you base your accusations of
``Zinovievism'' etc. on abstract assertions of how you think things
are (no doubt based on your negative experiences of the US SWP,
which incidently have also shaped how the DSP organises today)
rather than attempting to find out the actual practice and politics
and results of the comrades involved.
Norm.
For comrades new to Marxmail, a word of explanation might be in
order. The group that Norm belongs to is modeled on the group that I
used to belong to in the USA from 1967 to 1979. After that group went
nuts, Norm's group in broke with it. They hoped to build a party in
Australia that would stick to the "good" aspects of the group that I
belonged to before it went nuts. But I think that it was nuts to
begin with. My analysis of why it went nuts is here, along with a
discussion of Leninism in general:
http://www.columbia.edu/~lnp3/mydocs/organization/lenin_in_context.htm
I think that the group that Norm belongs to and the state capitalist
groups carry out very good work. We would be worse off if they
disappeared. I just think that they are constitutionally incapable of
breaking through a certain threshold because of built-in sectarian
baggage they refuse to abandon. Unfortunately, since they don't
acknowledge that there is such baggage to begin with, it is doubtful
that they will ever do so.
