Louis, your post says nothing about why what the ISO does in
Zimbabwe is off. Failing that it looks very much like gratuitous
sectarianism.
To which I would now just add:
Yours truly,
Andy -- a REAL Cannonite
Yes, that is true, Andy. You are a real Cannonite.
As far as what the ISO is doing in Zimbabwe, it would have a hard time I
think in becoming a true vanguard even if it dumped its "Leninist"
baggage overboard. For example, they characterize Mugabe as a fascist,
which is pretty ill-conceived from a Marxist perspective. While googling
around, I discovered that Callinicos is
from Zimbabwe originally. Maybe that played a role in getting
something off the ground there. It is really pretty amazing (or maybe
not so amazing) that the Cliffites have not a single Third World section
except in Zimbabwe.
Louis, your non-sectarian sectarianism with respect to any organisation
whatsoever is showing. In addition to Zimbabwe, there are groups in a
number of other African countries and elsewhere, not all of which we
broadcast on the Net since they are illegal and subject to persecution.
This is known as being careful about the security and survival of the
organisation, which is perhaps a concept that is a bit difficult to
grasp from the safety of a computer centre in an American university,
despite such things as the Patriot Act.
Btw, differences over Zimbabwe led to a split in
their international movement: http://www.angelfire.com/journal/iso/
There are no documents about ISOZIM (at least I can't see any) on that
page, which is dealing with ancient history anyway - no documents later
than 2001.
There were differences about the situation in Zimbabwe a number of years
ago, but they didn't actually lead to split in the IST.
